Edison, NJ (November 25, 2019) – Spring Hills Senior Communities is proud to announce that four of its managed facilities, Atrium Post Acute Care of Hamilton, Atrium Post Acute Care of Park Ridge, Atrium Post Acute Care of Matawan, and Atrium Post Acute Care of Woodbury, are listed in the U.S News and World Report’s annual ratings of the top nursing homes in New Jersey. They all were rated as “high-performing”. Out of the 3,000 nursing homes in the country to receive the designation of “U.S News Best Nursing Home” for 2019-2020, 137 are located in New Jersey.
Alexander Markowits, President/CEO of Spring Hills Senior Communities said, “Every Atrium Post Acute Care facility evaluates each patient’s medical and personal needs to determine the best course of care.” He continued, “It is wonderful to see that the care the Atrium staff is providing has earned us this honor of being named one of the top nursing homes in New Jersey. I am so proud of this and all of the success these facilities have accomplished since we began managing them in the fall of last year.”
In order to determine which facilities will make this list, U.S News looks at two main categories to give the overall rating: Short-Term Care and Long-Term Care. Short-term care includes temporary medical aftercare following any of the following: surgery, injury, illness, or other medical conditions expected to improve. The short-term rehabilitation rating is based on 10 quality measures including staffing, outcomes, resident complaints and processes of care. This rating designates nursing homes as high-performing, average or below average in the care they provided to patients who spent 100 days or less at a skilled nursing facility.
The long-term care rating, which is a new process this year, includes people who need ongoing daily assistance in a chronic health related condition and personal care. The long-term care rating is based on nine quality measures including staffing, outcomes, resident complaints, and processes of care. This rating also designates nursing homes as high-performing, average or below average in the care they provided to residents who spent more than 100 days at a nursing home.
Along with the evaluation of short-term and long-term care, the rating includes an emphasis on staffing. “We think everyone deserves to get the right amount of time and attention,” Zach Adams, a senior health data analyst at U.S News said to patch.com. U.S. News measured the percentage of days a nursing home met the federal standards for registered nurse staffing. According to patch.com, in addition to having sufficient staff overall, U.S. News wants to make sure nursing homes are still meeting some threshold on their less well-staffed days.
Due to the rising number of individuals in the care of a nursing home facility, the U.S news began to rank the best ones in 2009. The U.S. News Best Nursing Homes Short-Term Rehabilitation, Long-Term Care and Overall ratings offer individuals and families a starting point in their search for a nursing home, whether they are in need of short-term rehabilitation care or long-term care or are interested in a facility’s overall care.
